Stow-on-the-Wold is a proper drive from our Fairford workshop, and we will be straight with you about that. It is roughly 20 miles north up the A429 Fosse Way, a steady 34 minutes or so on a good day. That is further than our usual patch, so for most Stow drivers the sensible answer is collection and delivery by arrangement. We come to you, take the car, and bring it back sorted.
Why the trip is worth it
Stow sits high on the wold, and a hilltop town built for horses and market days was never going to be kind to modern paintwork. The Market Square fills up with visitors browsing the antique shops and coaching inns, and parking spaces there are tight and well used. Sheep Street and the antiques trade pull in plenty of cars too, and narrow corners near St Edward Church, with its famous yew-framed door under that tall tower, catch out anyone in a hurry. A clipped mirror, a scuffed bumper, a kerbed alloy on a cobbled edge: it all finds its way to us in the end.
The A429 crossroads, where several roads meet right at the heart of town, sees its share of bumps as well. Add the run out to the Porch House, reputed to be England’s oldest inn, and the lanes towards Bourton and the Slaughters, and there is no shortage of work for a careful body shop.
